Note: This step is entirely optional. It just provides a nice way to keep informed of when you have email.
Assuming you use Firefox, you might want to have a convenient way to keep informed of when you have email. Thankfully, with Gmail (unlike with Penn State's Webmail), you can easily do this. Through the usage of a Firefox extension called Gmail Notifier, you can see how many emails you have in your Inbox whenever you are using Firefox.
To install this extension, Click this link to Mozilla Add-Ons. Once it loads, click "Add to Firefox". If a yellow warning appears at the top of your browser window, simply click "Allow" (Note: don't allow sites you don't trust to install Add-Ons for Firefox. Mozilla Add-ons is a trustworthy site run by the same people who make Firefox). Wait for the timer to finish in the pop-up window and click "Install Now". When it is done, click "Restart Firefox".
After Firefox restarts, you should see a little envelope in the bottom right hand corner of your browser. Clicking it will open up your Gmail Inbox.
